Political Correctness Hurts American Society

This week Representatives Michele Bachmann, Trent Franks, Louie Gohmert, Tom Rooney, and Lynn Westmoreland came under attack by the liberal media and so-called conservative Republicans because they were doing their job as legislators.

These patriotic Members of Congress sent letters to the inspectors general of the State, Justice, Defense and Homeland Security Departments and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to question if people within the government are being influenced by the Muslim Brotherhood. I urge everybody to actually read these letters before they make a judgment. Based upon the reaction of those in the media and the “elites” in Washington, they have clearly not read them – or simply don’t want to know the facts.

Let’s remember, since January 2009, the Obama Administration has consistently shied away from using terms that they deem as politically incorrect. For example, in the beginning of her tenure at the Homeland Security Department, Janet Napolitano re-categorized terrorist strikes as “man-caused disasters.” In addition, President Obama changed the name of the “War on Terror” to “Overseas Contingency Operations.”
In 2010, Citizens United Productions, Newt Gingrich, and I teamed up to produce “America at Risk.” The documentary examines the spread of shariah law and radical Islamism. The film also delves into the events surrounding the horrible 2009 Fort Hood, Texas shooting and how President Obama fumbled the response.
An independent FBI report, led by former FBI Director William Webster, which came out this week, states that Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan – an Islamic radical – was NOT investigated by FBI agents before the shooting because of “political correctness.” This fatal mistake led to the killing of 13 people at Fort Hood. National security must trump political correctness; people die when our government fails in its duties because they are worried about offending people.
This extensive report received little to no attention by the mainstream media. Why? It is safe to assume that it would have discredited their narrative of the day -- that the inspectors general letters harken back to the day of McCarthyism. America’s media and political elites and the political correctness police have hit the panic button when it comes to these important letters. In this post-September 11th world, the inspectors general should absolutely investigate whether individuals with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and other extremist groups are contributing to the adoption of policies that favor organizations that pose a threat to our national security. As we saw with Nidal Hasan, people get killed when political correctness gets in the way.
It is not McCarthyism to state these irrefutable facts. These are legitimate requests by Members of Congress seeking, through the appropriate formal channels, to establish whether the Muslim Brotherhood has gained a foothold in our government. This is especially important in light of the adoption of Brotherhood-friendly policies by the Obama Administration.
Representatives Bachmann, Franks, Gohmert, Rooney, and Westmoreland should be applauded for their letters. They are Congressional leaders practicing due diligence; they are not on some sort of witch hunt or publicity stunt. If the inspectors general find nothing nefarious in nature, then case closed, but we must be vigilant. It is the duty of the government to protect Americans from all threats, foreign or domestic. These legislators are fulfilling their constitutional oaths. It is nice to see that, despite the current era of political correctness, there are still some people willing to do their jobs.
