On June 16, 17, and 18, The Heartland Institute ran three full-page ads in the Washington Post calling for an open debate over the science of global warming. You can click on the images below to see the ads. Please forward links to this page to friends and colleagues, and/or post these ads on your blog or Web site.

Each of these ads make specific claims, such as “some of the most distinguished scientists in the world have called fear of global warming ‘preposterous’ and ‘grossly exaggerated,’” and “a recent national poll found only 34% of Americans believe global warming is man-made.” Sources backing up these statements appear below.
We placed these ads because the mainstream media refuse to report the views of many scientists – by some accounts, most scientists – who believe global warming is not a crisis. The media also fail to accurately report the enormous cost to workers and consumers of legislation that would limit greenhouse gas emissions and the extensive public opposition to “cap and tax” legislation.
The science and economics of global warming are not too complicated for the average person to consider and make up his or her own mind. We urge you to do that. Go to http://www.globalwarmingheartland.org/ and view some of the articles linked under “What’s New” or “A Primer on Global Warming.” Or go to http://www.climatechangereconsidered.org/ and read about the new report from the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), which comprehensively rebuts the claims of the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

#1 We want to be part of this conversation.
The first ad in the series says “We want to be part of this conversation” and “Reject group think. Open up the debate.” The body text reads as follows:
When did the public get taken out of the “public” debate? Our country was founded on the idea of free and open debate. But this standard does not apply when it comes to climate change. People who question the science are labeled “deniers.” They are silenced and ignored by the media and politicians.
Some of the most distinguished scientists in the world have called fear of global warming “preposterous” and “grossly exaggerated.” More than 31,000 American scientists have signed the a petition saying “there is no convincing scientific evidence” that humans are causing or ever will cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere. Yet politicians and the mainstream media keep parroting the claim that “the debate is over.” Well, think again. It’s not.

Ad #2 – We just want to bring some method to the madness.
The second ad in the series says “We just want to bring some method to the madness” and “The debate over global warming is supposed to be about science, not politics or agendas.” The body text reads as follows:
Did you know that global temperatures haven’t increased at all in the past ten years? Or that scientists believe high levels of carbon dioxide in the air actually benefit wildlife and human health? Or that an international survey of climate scientists found that fewer than half believed climate science was sufficiently established to give policymakers a sound basis for passing laws?
Despite these facts, politicians around the nation are taking measures that will destroy more than a million good American jobs and increase the average family’s energy bill by at least $1,500 a year. Yet more than 31,000 American scientist say reducing greenhouse gas emissions isn’t necessary, and may even be harmful to the environment and human health. This is crazy!

Ad #3 – Global warming alarmists don’t want you to read this.
The third ad in the series says “Global warming alarmists don’t want you to read this” and “Let’s make global warming about the science again, not politics. Demand that elected officials and media stop hitting the mute button on truth.” The body text reads as follows:
Did you know that a recent national poll found only 34% of Americans believe global warming is man-made? Did you know that “cap and tax” regulation being considered by Congress would destroy over 1 million American jobs and increase the average family’s energy bill by at least $1,500 a year?
You probably don’t know these important facts because politicians, environmental advocacy groups, and the media routinely ignore and silence the scientists, economists, and other experts who say global warming isn’t a crisis. In fact, a group of scientists called the Nongovernmental Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) recently released a report which refutes, point by point, the very report that politicians are relying on to justify their massive new taxes.
Reporting false claims of impending “planetary emergencies” might sell more newspapers than telling the truth, but it’s wrong.
