Under fire: Security experts say software suggests Anthony Weiner sent a lewd tweet to a young woman, though it could have been hacked
The New York Democrat says his account was hacked, but The Daily has discovered that the crude post appears to have been made with the same software program as other messages Mr Weiner made the night of May 27.
The Daily revealed that 'the shot seen round the world' was sent via TweetDeck, a popular Adobe desktop application that links up with social networking sites, including Twitter.
The Queens and Brooklyn congressman is known to use TweetDeck, in addition to post with his BlackBerry and via the web.
Mr Weiner's Twitter stream has been archived by TweetCongress.org, a nonprofit website that captures each member of Congress’s Twitter feeds in real time.
The stream from Mr Weiner’s Twitter account on May 27 shows posts only from TweetDeck.
Security sources told The Daily this makes it seem less likely that his account was hacked. If it had been, they suggest the notorious Tweet may have appeared to have come from a different program.
However, they caution that the evidence is not definitive, as it's also possible that someone could have used TweetDeck from another login, copying Mr Weiner's online moves that night.
Fox presenter Kirsten Powers said of Mr Weiner: 'I think he's the only guy who ever dumped me!'
Former flame: TV correspondent Gigi Stone, shown in a September 2010 file photo, reportedly dated Mr Weiner
Organizers of the parade said they expected 30,000 participants and 'hundreds of thousands' of spectators for what they bill as the 'world's largest' event celebrating the independence of Israel.
New York's governor, Andrew Cuomo and Senator Chuck Schumer were there.
Former city Controller William Thompson Jr., a fellow Democrat, told the New York Daily News that Mr Weiner's scandal has become a 'circus'.
He said: 'It has become a huge distraction... Every answer raises another question'.
U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) told the paper: 'I'd like to see him here. He cares about Israel and \[is\] very active in the Jewish community and he ought to be here'.
Meanwhile, the New York Post spoke to several woman who dated the congressman before he married Huma Abedin, Hillary Rodham Clinton's top aide, in July 2010.
Mr Weiner reportedly dated Fox news analyst Kirsten Powers for a few months.
Ms Powers said of Mr Weiner: 'I think he's the only guy who ever dumped me!'
A brave face: Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, stepped into a State Department meeting yesterday
The woman said he was a 'great boyfriend, a good guy'.
Another reputed former girlfriend, who asked not to be named, told the Post: 'I think he's the kind of guy who didn't get a lot of girls in high school and, all of a sudden, he got attention'.
She said he pursued her so passionately that she gave him a chance, even though she didn't feel attracted.
'He gets very smitten', she said. 'He was very taken with me, in a very doting, admiring way'.
When Mr Weiner was a first-year congressman in 2001, he was mentioned in a Vanity Fair story about sex in Washington.
He reportedly introduced himself to 22-year-old intern Diana Davis as 'an auto-parts salesman,' but later said he'd be joining the president on Air Force One to tour Ground Zero.
