Late-night comics: Eastwood makes their day

The
late-night crowd, as expected, had a field day Friday with Clint
Eastwood's unusual speech the day before at the Republican National
Convention.
HBO's Bill Maher, well known for his unabashed support of President Obama, said he thought Mr. Eastwood epitomized the Republican Party as, "a confused old person yelling at something that doesn't exist."
NBC's Jay Leno — generally more sympathetic to Republican candidates than some of his comedy peers — called the Eastwood appearance a "debacle."
"After watching Clint Eastwood last night, c'mon, be honest: Sarah Palin's not looking too bad, now, is she," he said, drawing laughs from the "Tonight Show" crowd.
Jon Stewart, who broadcast Comedy Central's "Daily Show" all week from Tampa, called the Eastwood appearance "a fistful of awesome," and said it was the highlight of the convention.
"This is the most joy I've gotten from an old man since Dick Cheney non-fatally shot one in the face," Mr. Stewart said.
