Democrats Preparing to Oust Nancy Pelosi

House Democrats will hold their leadership elections on November 29, and the late date has led to speculation that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will step down and groom potential successors to take her place. 

 

According to The Hill, some in Congress feel "Pelosi might be preparing to step down after 25 years on Capitol Hill, and that she plans to use her return in the lame-duck session to groom a challenger to Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), who is eager to move up the ladder."
Hoyer, Rep. James Clyburn, the third-ranking Democrats, and a new generation of Democrats have been waiting to move up the leadership ladder while Pelosi has been their leader for a decade.
The Hill notes younger Democratic leaders have been "anxiously" waiting for Pelosi to step down and her ten years as leader has been the longest stint in more than 50 years on the Democratic side of the aisle.
"Certainly we will see a generational shift, and that will be good," Pelosi said during the Democratic National Convention.
According to The Hill, Pelosi has "singled out" several Democrats as being potential leaders, even those Pelosi may not be particularly close to, like DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), and they include:

Reps. Chris Van Hollen (Md.), the ranking member of the Budget Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), the head of the Democratic National Committee, and Xavier Becerra (Calif.), the vice chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.
