Colombia kills FARC Rebels’ top military chief during airstrike – Buenos Aires Herald
Top Colombian FARC rebel commander Jorge Briceño -a.k.a Mono Jojoy- has been killed during an airstrike, Colombia’s General Prosecutor, Guillermo Mendoza, told reporters.
“A military source has confirmed to us that the dead body of FARC’s top military chief, Mono JoJoy, was found after an intense airstrike,” Mendoza said.
Likewise, and according to a Defence Ministry’s source, another 20 guerrilla members died along with Briceño during an airstrike on rebels who were settled at La Macarena district in the central province of Meta.
The death of Mono Jojoy would be the severest strike against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, since two top commanders died in 2008.
Mono Jojoy was considered the FARC’s top military chief.
